Klosterfrau-Group Award for Research of Airway Diseases in Childhood 2025

Application starts on June 3, 2024 and ends on November 22, 2024

 

The Klosterfrau Foundation wants to encourage researchers in the field of pediatric respiratory medicine to apply for the prestigious Klosterfrau-Group Award for Research of Airway Diseases in Childhood. The award exists in its 25th year.

Background: Airway diseases are the most common pathologies in childhood with high incidence in all parts of the world. Respiratory diseases in children represent enormous burdens to the affected patients and their families and are associated with multiple clinical and scientific challenges. The Klosterfrau award would like to support scientists around the world who conduct research aiming at both improving the etiological understanding and the therapy of respiratory diseases in childhood.

Aims and Scope: Scientists conducting clinical or basic research in the field of pediatric lung diseases can apply for the award and send their publication and application to the committee. Thought provoking papers with a translational potential are especially welcomed. The award preferentially supports young scientists. Applicants should not be older than 40 years.

The prize is endowed with € 30.000. It will be given to one person or one team, represented by a single person. € 10.000 of this sum are at individual disposal of the prize winner (winning team), whereas € 20.000 have to be spent for further research of the winner or his team.

Guidelines

  • Each application must be submitted by a single applicant.
  • Applicants should not be older than 40 years.
  • Only one paper with the applicant as first or last author published or accepted for publication not earlier than July 2021will be taken into account.
  • The work may cover clinical or basic research with significant impact on pediatric pulmonology.
  • The majority of the research work should have been performed by the applicant.
  • The application should contain a short statement of the head of the research group that he/she (the group) supports the application.
  • A short curriculum vitae of the applicant and a list of his/her publications must be attached.
  • The applicant must submit a summary of his/her paper (500 words), with an indication of its clinical relevance to airway diseases in childhood and which questions arising from the work need to be answered in the future. Reference to further relevant papers of the same author/team may be given in this summary.  
  • Review-papers will not be taken into account.
